Sitaara Grove Indian Cuisine (2008-11-11)

I think the last time I ate Indian food was over 20 years ago in a dingy San Francisco restaurant with friends.  We ordered a lot of dishes and they pretty much tasted the same, just in different shades of green and mustard yellow.  The meal didn't leave me with a very good impression which led me to shun Indian food since then.

KL said times have changed and Indian food is not what I remember it was anymore and he insisted we try this one in Takashimaya (kanji).  I'm glad we did because the food was great!  All the chefs in the open kitchen are Indian and their naan kicks ass!  It was crispy on the bottom and soft and fluffy throughout cooked in a tandoor oven.  The chefs are very friendly people showing off their skill by twirling and flipping the dough in the air whenever someone is interested enough to stop and take a look at them outside the kitchen window.

I loved the two curries that came in my set.  The prawn curry had coconut milk in it which went very well with the spices-infused basmati rice.  The vegetable curry was deeply aromatic and SPICY which was perfect for dipping the piping hot naan in.  But it was so hot that my nose started to run after a few bites and had a coughing fit after the meal.  Admittedly my tolerance for spicy food is very low, so when I say it is spicy, a lot of people may disagree.

Both of the sets we ordered were surprisingly large and we ended up leaving quite a bit of food behind despite our effort to finish it.  In fact we were so stuffed that we had to skip dinner that day!  The lady next to our table had a smaller set that came with a very delicious looking dosa which I have only seen pictures of before.  We will definitely return, I want the curries again and try the dosa.
