College English Test For Highschool Students (2009-02-18)
This is one of those posts that has very little meaning to very few people. My best friend's son recently took a college entrance exam which
included an English test. She brought me the exam paper and the
device for the Listening Portion of the test to listen to so I could
tell her what I thought about the test.
The test runs the usual format of any language listening exam made
up of questions corresponding to conversations and speeches. All
the speakers have North American accent using common American phrases
and colloquial words.
My impression is: it's just way too hard for an average
highschool kid. Many university graduates would have trouble
doing well in this exam, much less highschool students. What's
the objective of the exam board, to flunk as many students as possible?
