Fire In Our Shopping Street (2004-11-27)

This past Tuesday was a public holiday and KL and I went shopping for clothes in Kichijoji (kanji).  On the way home, as soon as we got up on street level from our subway station, we heard multiple sirens and many people gathered across a shopping street watching and talking among themselves.  The sirens were from several fire trucks, followed by ambulances and police cars.  It was quite a big commotion.  We joined the crowd so I could quickly take some pictures.  It was the first fire (well, sort of) I saw in person in Japan.

That fire must be big because we couldn't actually see it but we could certainly smell it and saw smoke coming from the direction of the shopping street.  We only stayed for a very brief moment as smoke started to get thick and it was beginning to get difficult to breathe.   Hope no one died in the fire.
