Waffle Hash Browns (2014-12-01)

I was googling for ways to multi-task my waffle maker and found that it's excellent for making hash browns.

I tried both the shredded potato and frozen hash browns versions, they came out fantastically delicious!

Be warned: once you cook hash browns in a waffle maker, you won't be able to go back to making it in a frypan.

Raw potato method:

1. 250gm grated floury potato using the large grates on a hand grater.

2. Rinse briefly and squeeze out as much water as you can.

3. Mix 1/4 tsp salt (or to taste) and 1/2 tsp oil with the potato.

4. Spread the whole amount onto the waffle maker, cook 15-20 minutes.  Fluff around and cook 10 minutes more.

Frozen hash browns method:

1. Thaw frozen hash browns, place in the waffle maker, cook 20 minutes.

p.s. My waffle maker is the cheap kind without any button (it switches on when plugged in).  If yours has temperature control and stuff, the time needed might be different.  Play around with it.  You can also cook hash browns in their frozen state, it just takes longer to cook.
