Kind Of A Mobile Gas Station (2005-01-26)
Many people use kerosene heaters here and when the fuel runs out, they don't need to go to the gas station to get more, the gas station comes to them. Well, may be not the entire station, but a truck rigged with a gas pump does go to individual household to sell them kerosene. There has been one going around our neighborhood lately as the weather turns chilly and the demand for fuel increases. The truck driver, who is also the service person, cruises along slowly while he plays a catchy tune from the vehicle very loudly. People who need the fuel just hail the truck with their red containers ready and the driver would fill them up.
I have never seen fuel sold like that. It is certainly
convenient for the consumers and I'm sure fuel truck companies have all
safety issues figured out. I would hate to think of the
consequences should such a truck traveling on narrow streets in packed
neighborhood blow up...not a pleasant thought.
