Shintaipei Restaurant (2005-05-23)
Of the different kinds of cuisine in the world, Chinese food is my favorite. It is hard to get authentic and tasty Chinese food in Tokyo without paying through the nose, so I'm quite happy with moderately-priced restaurants whose food may not exactly be authentic, but tasty nonetheless. There is a Chinese restaurant located on the 8th floor of Lumine
department store above JR's Machida () Station. The restaurant
specializes in Taiwan cuisine and is aptly called Shintaipei (New
Taipei). We have been there twice and both times it was
crowded. The first time we ate there we ordered small dishes of
local Taiwanese food. Last time we just ordered the set
lunch. Although the meal didn't come out like the replicas
outside the restaurant, it still tasted good and I wasn't terribly
disappointed.
It's good to know that they have opened another restaurant in Shimokitazawa () which is much easier to get to for us from Shinjuku (). Next time we won't have to travel so far to satisfy our crave for Taiwanese food.
