Marco Is So Thoughtful (2007-06-06)

You know what the best gift is?  The best gift is when it arrives in the mail completely unexpectedly AND is edible you like!   We received such an exciting package from KL's brother, Marco last week.  Everything inside the box reflects the topics we chatted about or the kind of food we browsed in shops while we hung out together in New York (Marco's residence) and Hong Kong last February.  Wow, what a thoughtful person, with such good memory!

Here is a run down of the things we got:

I was really surprised to see a can of tuna and clams in the package as canned goods are a rarity in foodie gifts due to their hefty weight.  The postage for them must've cost more than the cans themselves!  You bet I'll be using up every last morsel in the cans to make the most of them.

I love the four different kinds of gourmet course salt in cute little tin containers with small and large holes on the lip of the lid for easy pour.  The bottom of the containers is magnetised so that you can slap them on any metal surface (like the fridge for space-saving storage), how neat is that!  If you think all salt tastes the same, you'd be wrong.  These salts have a varying degree of salinity.  The pretty pink Murray River salt is the mildest of all while the black Alaea Fine is lip-puckeringly salty.  The charcoal-colored Salish Course has a strong smoky taste to it, perfect for seasoning our next BBQ.  Judging from the DIY labels on the lids, it looks like Marco bought the salt separately and filled the empty pots himself.

The bag of penne is better than what we can find in Tokyo.  I'm not saying this out of politeness, it really is better.  The penne is smaller and skinnier than the big fat ones sold here (there may be small sized penne here but I haven't seen it) which would make it much easier and less awkward to eat.

The soap is no doubt for me because I had casually asked Marco about shampoo when he visited us in our hotel in Hong Kong and he said soap is the best cleanser for hair.  So here it is, a bar of shampoo soap just for moi.

The four CDs turned out to be songs, classic pops of Hong Kong from the 60's to the 80's, some I haven't heard in over 25 years!  Where'd he find those songs and how'd he remember we said we like oldies?

And that was all very good.  Thank you Marco!   Thank you for being so kind and generous.  You totally rock!
