Soft-shell Prawns (2008-11-12)

I didn't know prawns/shrimps have to molt like crabs.  Well, apparently they do 'cos I came upon them last week which I've never seen in my life.  I, of the investigative and inquisitive mind, had to get some of course.

Their shells are paper thin which look and feel exactly like cellophane tape.  I cooked them Chinese style with garlic, ginger, scallions, soy and sugar.  Although their skin was thin enough to be eaten, I didn't because the texture also felt like cellophane tape which was too chewy for me to swallow and I ended up peeling most of them.  This in turn makes eating them more labor-intensive as the skin/shell gets stuck to the flesh and is more difficult to peel than prawns with a hard shell.

Now I know.  I don't like to eat cellophane tape.
