Update On My Birdfeeder (2004-07-10)
I found out birds are messy eaters. When they feed, they use their beaks to flick seeds everywhere. Therefore I replaced the tray of the old birdfeeder with a CD case I got in a 100Yen shop. It is deep enough to hold the seeds in place even when the birds are flapping their wings in it. They still manage to spill out seedpods but the situation is a drastic improvement upon the old one. However the container-like case leads to a new problem. My improved birdfeeder suffered from flooding big time. Every
time it rained, and we had a lot of it the past month due to the
rainy season,
the birdfeeder
would get drenched, the seeds went to waste and the feed inside the
bottle would turn into a slushy mess from water seeped into it through
the feeding hole. I have yet upgraded my invention.
I bought a tray with numerous holes in it at a 100 Yen shop and
attached it to the usual place on the metal screen. The
birdfeeder fits perfectly in the tray, like a detachable part of a
device. When it rains, I simply take the feeder out and put it
back in when the rain stops. It also makes refilling the birdfeed
a much easier job since I don't need to climb on a chair to pour seeds
into the bottle anymore.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I marvel at my own cleverness!
