Nishiki Market, Teramachi, Afternoon Tea At Cafe de Anri (2009-04-05)
My right foot was killing me as we dragged ourselves from Gion to Nishiki market, the "Kitchen of Kyoto". The market is very long but narrow; being a public holiday that day, it was butt-to-butt traffic inside.Crossing at the end of the market are two very long shopping streets
called Teramachi which we had neither the energy nor the mood to
browse. That job would have to be finished by shopaholic Serlina
when she explored the area days later.
Walking quickly past Teramachi, we found out the nearest subway
station is another 20-min walk! (#$'&%$"!!!!) Good Golly, but
I persevered. Finally when we reached Kyoto Station, we almost
skidded to a cafe in Porta and crashed in the seats!
Food wasn't the focus anymore as we rested our exhausted feet and
quenched our thirsty throats. But Cafe de Anri is very sly by
putting replica chocolate cakes in their cold case which lured me
inside in the first place. I've never seen any cake shops putting
fake cakes in their chill case!!
Access to Nishiki Market: Shijo Station on subway Karasuma Line. Walk along Shijo-dori (Ave) toward East, pass the huge Mitsui Building and turn right on the first side street.
