Saboten Tonkatsu (2009-05-11)

Like Wako, Saboten is a franchised tonkatsu (panko-coated fried pork cutlet) restaurant.  And also like Wako, you can have unlimited rice, shredded cabbage and miso soup when you order the set meal.  I've eaten in several Wako and Saboten and I find the food tastes pretty identical in the two restaurants.

However what separates the two is that at Saboten, a small bowl of roasted sesame seeds always comes with the set meal for the diners to grind away and mix it with tonkatsu sauce to eat with the pork.  Also the prices at Saboten are slightly higher than Wako which makes it less popular than the cheaper Wako I guess.

P.S. The Saboten whose photos I took for this post is located on the 8th floor of Keio Department Store in Shinjuku (kanji).
