Big Apple Diner (2009-11-07)

The word "Diner" in Big Apple Diner is tempting enough for this diner lover, and preceded by "Big Apple", and the restaurant has been in business for 31 years, so how bad can the food be?  The answer is: the food can be bad, really bad, SUCKINGLY BAD!

The narrow staircase running down from the narrow restaurant front leads to a bar/counter and expands into a mid-sized dining room.  We were told to seat ourselves by the elderly man who worked as the server and cashier.  The menu is very small consisting of just three set meals, a couple of other things, and some desserts.  (What kind of a diner that doesn't serve burgers?!)

We both ordered the Daily Special which I mistakenly thought was a burger but turned out to be a piece of thin panfried ground beef patty, salad and rice, plus coffee or tea.  The patty was SOOOOOO salty!  It was completely over-seasoned and finished with a heavy soy-based sauce.  The green salad had a smidgen of dressing with a tiny serving of konnyaku (that shaped like penne pasta) salad on the side.  KL ordered a piece of New York cheesecake which he said was so-so although his coffee was unexpectedly good.

This has to be one of the worst meals we ever had in Tokyo.  How does this restaurant keep their customers coming back for 31 years, I have absolutely no idea.
