Baby Kasutera (2007-08-08)

Those hawkers that sell little kasutera balls are forever elusive.  I've only seen them once in Kyoto but guess what?  KL saw one in Ginza (kanji) after work one night!  He got twenty for 500Yen and we had that for dessert.

These balls, called Baby Kasutera, are not to be confused with traditional Kasutera cakes although they taste the same!  These ball-shaped cakes always remind me of Gai Dan Tsai, but a much heavier and thicker skin and a solid center tell me they don't even come close to the deliciously light and crispy kind you find in Hong Kong.

Well, for the time being, baby kasutera are better than none at all.
