Pho And Noodles (2007-10-19)
Mom took us to a Chinese restaurant inside Meridian Bistro for a Vietnamese Pho lunch one day. Judging from the small building and the room-ful of poker machines adjacent to the dining area, Meridian looks more like your everyday RSL club to me. Anyhow, the nature of the establishment is not my concern, as long as the restaurant serves good pho.All three of us wanted the same Pho with beef and Mom was quick to
pay at the cashier while she placed the order for us. The soup's
fragrant and the noodles slippery smooth although the beef was a tad
cooked. I think I can recreate this bowl with the right
ingredients and proper stock cube that Serlina sent me once. But
at just A$6.5 for that huge bowl, why bother?
Speaking of RSL club, parents took Peter's family and us to the
Hurstville RSL for lunch one weekend. The Palace Bistro inside
the club has a modest menu from which we ordered mostly noodles and
rice. The stirfried flat noodles was great, but I love rice
noodles anyway so I could be biased. The fried rice and Shanghai
noodles with XO sauce were delicious too. The beef soup noodles
on the other hand was not so beautiful. Although the rice noodles
in it were perfect, the beef based soup was too gamey tasting to
me.
I don't know how much the meal came down to since it was paid for at
the cashier when Mom placed the order. Thank you Mummy dearest
for both satisfying lunch.
