Singapore Day 4-- Chinatown, Maxwell Food Centre, Tian Tian Chicken Rice, Taxi Ride (2008-12-04)
By the time we reached Chinatown, it was nearly 6 pm. We went there for the very famous Tian Tian chicken rice in Maxwell Food Centre about a 10-minute walk from the station which closes around 7pm, so there's not a lot of time to browse malls and stores there. I did spend some time to take quite a few pictures along the way though. We were really not that hungry when we got to the food centre, so we
decided to get takeway from the stall and catch a taxi back to the
hotel.
We didn't realize there're many hidden charges in a taxi fare until
we got on to one. There could be as many as FOUR meters running
at one time (depending on the time and place you use the service), and
at the end you have to pay the sum of them all. Our fare from
Chinatown to Orchard Road was S$8.3, but the surcharges totalled S$7!
Okay, so back to the hotel, we dug into the chicken rice eaten by
famous people like Anthony Bourdain! One bite and we know it was
far superior than Sergeant. The rice was fragrant and the chicken
was very moist and tender and had a good chickeny taste. If you
are like me who prefer thigh meat because you think breast meat is
tough, dry and flavorless, the chicken rice in Singapore will change
your mind, particularly Tian Tian's.
After that delicious dinner, KL went to tcc nearby to get a
cheesecake for next day's breakfast and I more Bee Cheng Hiang jerky to munch
on.
Our trip is half over lah! >_<
