Nakano (2004-11-23)
If you want to buy vintage Rolex watches, toys or models, you should visit Nakano (
). It is a place few overseas
visitors know but frequented by Japanese people. Nakano is only
five minutes from Shinjuku (
) by JR Chou Line and ten minutes from my
place.The building that houses Sun Mall, a long covered shopping arcade,
is only meters from the North Exit of the station. It is very
popular among local people. There are also many restaurants,
especially Korean style BBQ restaurants, in the alleys and side
streets. Where Sun Mall ends is the beginning of another lot of
shops in a building called Nakano Broadway Center. There are many
bargain stores that sell clothings and shoes inside it. Broadway
Center is four stories high and the shops that sell vintage merchandise
are on the third and fourth floor. There is even a store that
sells nothing but Hong Kong movies and music CDs.
Nakano is not an expensive suburb, one can find grocery stores and food shops selling products at a lower cost than most other shops. I always end up buying more grocery than I intended to whenever I go to Nakano. There are always so many food items on sale there. Be sure to check out the basement of Broadway Center for bargain prices.
