The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (2005-02-07)
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is given out simultaneously in Japan and many Japanese embassies throughout the world only once a year. The test is officially recognized by many companies, educational institutions and government offices; foreign students have to pass a required level before they are admitted into universities here. The test is graded on four levels, with Level 1 being the highest and most difficult to pass.KL didn't do the lower two levels and took the Level 2
test in 2001. In 2003 he tried his skill at Level
1 and was just nine points from passing. Not that his company
required him to take the test, he's just naturally competitive to
achieve, in this case, his Japanese language proficiency. He said
he would just keep on taking the test until he passed if that's what he
had to do. So he waited a year and retook the test last December.
Yesterday the result came in our mail. With a satisfactory
smile KL showed me the big "Pass" word on the card (Yay!). His
determination paid off and there adds another reason why I respect and
admire this guy so much. From not knowning a single Japanese word five years
ago to passing the Level 1 test, he's come a long way.
