Bird Feeder Success (2004-04-17)
It works! It works! It works! This morning when I took Daifoo to the parking lot for his morning walk, I saw a bird fly to my bird feeder and eat. Hallellujah! It was the first one I saw, may be it'll spread the news and bring its friends along next time. I'm so happy, yay! And we were going to go out this morning, glad I changed my mind and asked KL to stay home or we'd have missed this earthshaking moment.Anyone out there who's interested in making your own bird feeder like mine, here's how:
- Cut several small holes along the circumference of the base of a small pet bottle for the birdfeed to flow through.
- Cut a hole the size of the pet bottle's cap in the center of a plastic tray ( supermarkets sell meat and seafood in those trays) and plop it up-side-down over the bottle. This helps to act as a cover for the feed.
- Glue another plastic tray on the bottom for the birds to land. I have upgraded mine with a wooden tray I got for a buck, I thought it might provide a sturdier platform for them. Fill the bottle with feed using a funnel and leave the cap on, it helps to keep the content nice and dry.
And someone said it'll probably never work. Who has the last
laugh now, KL?
Updates: We just saw TWO birds feed from my birdfeeder, hee hee, hee hee hee, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
