Bird Feeder Success (2004-04-17)

It works! It works! It works!  This morning when I took Daifoo to the parking lot for his morning walk, I saw a bird fly to my bird feeder and eat.  Hallellujah!  It was the first one I saw, may be it'll spread the news and bring its friends along next time.  I'm so happy, yay! And we were going to go out this morning, glad I changed my mind and asked KL to stay home or we'd have missed this earthshaking moment.

Anyone out there who's interested in making your own bird feeder like mine, here's how:

  1. Cut several small holes along the circumference of the base of a small pet bottle for the birdfeed to flow through.
  2. Cut a hole the size of the pet bottle's cap in the center of a plastic tray ( supermarkets sell meat and seafood in those trays) and plop it up-side-down over the bottle.  This helps to act as a cover for the feed.
  3. Glue another plastic tray on the bottom for the birds to land.  I have upgraded mine with a wooden tray I got for a buck, I thought it might provide a sturdier platform for them.  Fill the bottle with feed using a funnel and leave the cap on, it helps to keep the content nice and dry.
And that's it, all you need to do now is to find a high place to set it up and hope for the best.

And someone said it'll probably never work.  Who has the last laugh now, KL?

Updates:  We just saw TWO birds feed from my birdfeeder, hee hee, hee hee hee, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
