Bless Yer Car (2007-04-20)
Japanese people are not as superstitious as Hong Kong people, but still pretty superstitious. They have all sorts of rituals and custom for warding off evil spirits or bringing health and fortune. One of such ritual involves getting their car blessed at a shrine. My local shrine provides just such service. They have a lil'
setup in the courtyard with a table and a chair (for the monk to sit on
while praying). I've seen numerous times when someone brings
their brand new car to the stand so the monk can perform a string of
praying rituals to bless the car and its driver for a driving
accident-free life. Whatever makes these superstitious people
feel safe on the road I guess.
