Shopping For Dad (2007-09-06)

My dad asked me to bring him the apparatus you see on the picture to Sydney.  They are mesh cages in which you put stuff to air dry.  I brought one for him last time we went home and he obviously found it useful, thus wanting more.  Serlina, my sister, told me he tried to dry fresh duck once which resulted in a piece of thoroughly rotten meat!  I don't know which method he employed, but I really doubt the kind of weather--meaning warm, humid and lack of breeze-- in his inner suburb Sydney home is very inducing for making charcuterie.  Even if he had tried to cure the duck in winter when it's cool, I don't think my dad knows the first thing about prepping meat for curing.  But you've gotta give him credit for trying.
