The Mastermind Behind This Site (2004-07-02)
Today I would like to acknowledge KL's dedication and hard work given to this site. Without him, it would never have existed. For weeks before tabibito was launched, KL spent whatever little time he got from his busy work and wrote many programs for this blog. All that time during the weekend KL could have spent taking a much-needed rest, he devoted it on making my hobby a reality. He basically built everything from scratch. This site does not have a hosting company. We host it from home using my noisy computer during the day and his virtually noiseless laptop throughout the night. The beauty of self-hosting is of course cost-saving. No money has been spent to run this site, except maybe the digital camera we bought to take pictures for posting.KL also wrote a program which enables the articles to automatically
upload themselves on to the site at midnight. Therefore even when
we are out of town, like we were in May to Hong Kong, visitors can
still read a new entry everyday. There are no aesthetic logos,
crafty layout or animation to adorn this site like many others, nor do
I want
any. As long as tabibito serves as a journal with pictures that
enables me to look back in the future about our lives in Japan, its
purpose is served. However KL will continue to add useful
features to it
because he enjoys doing so. But don't expect them for awhile
because he only has so much time to spare on this site.
He still works once or twice a week to put my articles and
pictures together (since I am completely computer-illiterate and can't
do it myself). I got the easy job of just taking photos and
penning a few words. So I am writing this entry, to give credit
where
credit is due. Hat off to the brain and mastermind behind
tabibito!
