Suzuya Tonkatsu (2009-11-10)
The host of a Hong Kong TV travel show highly recommended Suzuya's tonkatsu, so we went to check it out ourselves.KL liked the atmosphere a lot for its retro feel from old polished
hardwood floor and old-style Japanese kissaten
(coffee shop) furniture and decor. Soft jazz music flowing in the
background is soothing too.
The restaurant's famous Toncha (tonkatsu eaten with green tea over
rice) didn't lure us, we went for the Pork Loin Set using Mugibuta from
Guma Prefecture and Tender Loin Set with. Admittedly the pork was
very flavorful and tender and moist, and the coating crunchy and
non-greasy which is pretty much the same as all the tonkatsu
restaurants we've gone to in Tokyo! My retarted palate can't
detect the fine difference between Suzuya's katsu and say, Wako's.
Oh well, we enjoyed our meal, that's the most important thing.
