Evason Ana Mandara (2009-12-15)

Our sole purpose for going to a beach resort is relaxation on the beach.  Since there's only one hotel in Nha Trang city which is actually built on the beach, the others weren't even given much thought.

We were met with an extremely amicable lady staff as soon as we arrived at the hotel who showed us to the Lobby Bar with welcome drinks.  After a little while, our hostess Trieu came to welcome us and led us to our room.  She gave us a tour of our room and offered to walk us through the hotel but we were too tired for that.

KL asked for a Wi-Fi access point so he could use his iPod Touch in the room and a staff promptly showed up with one after Trieu left.  As we were settling into the new environment, she rang and offered us free daily breakfast which was not included in our reservation, woohoo!

Service at Ana Mandara was simply stunning.  Every single staff greeted us whenever we walked past, Trieu and another restaurant head staff addressed us by our names the entire time and all the employees just went out their way to help.  I remember trying to change a small amount of Dong at the reception but we only had large bills in Yen.  The staff offered to lend us money from her own wallet and said we could pay her back later!  That's how much they want to help guests.

However there are two things I'm not happy about the hotel.

  • The lightings on the paths within the hotel are terribly dim.  It was so dark at night that many times I was afraid to take a step forward worrying that I might trip.  And all the paths are either cobbled or laid with uneven rustic style bricks that COULD trip you if you are not careful.
  • Next and much worse than the dim lights are cockroaches!!  Nha Trang is hot, humid and the streets dotted with large and small piles of garbage.  Large cockroaches (dead or alive) are ubiquitous; and all the trees within and around the hotel compound only add to the problem.  During our four nights' stay, there were two big ones in the bathroom, one on the first night and another one on the last night!!!  @_@!!!  I reflected this to Trieu when we were leaving the hotel and hopefully they'll be more vigilant in their pest control.

I took tons of pictures of the hotel which I need to put up in two seperate posts.  Today's pictures are about the hotel in general, tomorrow our room.
