Toilet and bathroom (2004-03-16)
The toilet in our apartment is seperate from the
bathroom. Older apartments, such as the one we used to live in, have
the toilet inside the bathroom. Thank goodness we are done with that.
Someone smart designed our toilet. It has a faucet that sits on top of
the cistern. Each time you flush, water comes out of the faucet to fill
the tank as it is quickly emptying out to flush the toilet. The water
from the faucet also enables the person to simultaneously wash his/her
hands. This is putting water conservation into good practice.
As for our bathroom, it is really tiny. It's so small that there
isn't room for a vanity or shelves, not even behind the mirror. I hung
a basket on the rail for a makeshift storage case and I use the surface
of the sink to death. We place a plastic stool inside the bathtub so we
can sit on it while having a shower. We rarely take a bath, the tub is
small and it's much too troublesome.
Japanese people is the only culture I can think of that consistently
and religiously use the bathtub for a bath, everyday. (How many times
do you take a bath each week? How about each year?) They would sit on a
stool placed on the bathroom floor to have a shower and wash their
hair. Then they would have a nice good soak in the bathtub. Sometimes
the kids would join the parent, usually the father. Many other times,
the family members would take turns relaxing in the bathtub all using
the SAME water. I know they shower before jumping in the tub, but
ummm....
