Bad Udon (2007-04-10)

My friend knows I love udon, so she brought back a pack of udon for me from a trip to Niigata (kanji) which is famous for their Koshihikari rice.  The udon is made with the same special rice and is supposed to be delicious.

I made it for lunch one day and was quite disappointed.  The udon was floury and devoid of the chewiness that good udon should have.  The fresh or frozen kind from our local supermarket is far superior than this Niigata one.  I didn't finish my bowl of udon as the heavy mealy noodles felt like major belly ballast very quickly.
