Dead Nestling (2004-06-29)
Just like last year, we found a dead nestling on the ground by the power pole this afternoon. The poor birdie must have fallen from the nest in the metal box above. Seeing its teeny tiny wings and unopened eyes breaks my heart. Flies had already alit on its ragged body when we found it. I was going to bury it but then realized the soil's too shallow in our tiny patch of garden. This is the second bird I had to dispose of in the trash this year. What a shame.
