Lim Chee Guan, Tutu Kueh (2014-12-26)
It seems Singaporeans are always building new malls and shopping centers. They say shopping is one of the favorite pastime of the locals, may be there's some truth to it.ION on Orchard Road is a fairly new mall, its shiny and
modern exterior just begs for my visit. There are the
usual shops and name brand stores, but what I was most interested in
was
the food section in the basement. To my surprise, famous jerky
maker Lim Chee Guan has opened up shop there, woohoo! I did plan
on going to the one in Chinatown, finding its new branch there saved us
a trip.
I bought two slices of pork jerky to try and in my humble opinion,
it's not as tasty as BeeCheng Hiang's. Lim's was a bit too porky
and less fragrant.
We also tried a snack that we saw in travel shows called tutu
kueh. The vendor fills a round flat mold with a white mixture,
stuffs it with the filling of your choice and steams it. It only
takes a minute or so to cook. I thought they'd be chewy like
mochi but they tasted like a very dry, bland and grainy dough.
The flavor of tutu kueh relies solely on its filling.
We didn't hate it but definitely wouldn't buy it again.
