The Red Gate Of Tokyo University (2005-03-01)
Last time when I wrote about Tokyo University, I did not have a picture of the Red Gate (Akamon), the very symbol of the university, to post on this site. Therefore KL went back there one weekend later to take its photo and the surrounding area. The Red Gate is the main entrance to Tokyo University on Hongo-dori
Street. The big Japanese style gate was built in 1827 for the
home of a general, and it was painted red to welcome the coming and
going of the general's family. Fifty years later, the gate was
moved to Tokyo University and became its main entrance. It is now
recognized as an important cultural treasure of Japan.
I also included a few pictures of KL's lunch at a trendy little
restaurant in the area in today's gallery. Hope you don't mind.
