Poppy Flower Under The Magnifying Glass (2005-05-25)

The magnifying glass we bought on our recent trip to Taiwan has been giving us lots of fun seeing things, well, magnified.  Plants are the best objects to examine under the glass.  We are always so amazed at seeing all those seeds, stamens and filament inside a tiny flower in close-up.

The streets are always so filled with wild poppies at this time of the year that we decided to "study" them under the magnifying glass.  The biggest discovery is the sheer number of seeds in a fresh poppy flower seed pod we saw.  When the seed pods are young, their seeds are almost transparent, then as they mature, the tiny seeds inside turn black and become dry.  I guess duing which time the pods will open up and drop the seeds on the ground and be forgotten until new poppy flowers emerge the following Spring.

If things under a little magnifying glass can be so interesting to see, imagine the fun a microscope can bring us.  But there is always one factor that stops us from acquiring one--cost.
