Gururi Ramen (2006-04-26)
Situated near the pedestrian crossing at the south exit of Ogikubo Station on Chuo Line is an itty bitty ramen shop called Gururi in the basement of a skinny building. One has to descend a narrow staircase to reach the very small shop which seats roughly ten people, all counter seats, no tables.Although insufficient in floor space, the shop's signature ramen does receive a lot of acclamation
from food critics and is featured in several gourmet magazines.
The over-sized picture of the bowl of Gururi ramen at the staircase
entrance looks delicious enough to draw people into the shop. KL
and I were doing some shopping in the area and decided to try that
shop out after we looked at that picture and read the praise critics
wrote under the picture.
Well, we did enjoy the noodles very much. For one thing, it
has the most toppings amongst all ramen I've eaten. The soup was thick
with the aroma of a pork bone-based stock. The roast pork
(chasui) slices were grilled after a long slow boiling before they were
served, therefore they were both tender and fragrant.
Gururi Ramen is a shop worth repeated visits should I be around the area again.
