Singapore Day 6-- Dinner At Crystal Jade Palace, Hippotour (2008-12-11)
It's the last dinner in Singapore and there's still so much food we hadn't eaten! I wanted more crab and Chinese food and satay and grilled stingray and even Italian! Well, at the end, we decided to go back to Crystal Jade to have their outstanding Chinese BBQ. ^_^!There's chilli crab on the menu but I went for a different
kind--Shanghai hairy crab. It's very expensive in the local "crab
circle", but not really in Yen. (Ahhh, the "beauty" of living in Tokyo,
everywhere else in Asia is cheap in comparison)
KL was suffering from the cold/flu, he didn't have much of an
appetite and ordered himself a bowl of plain congee. We also got
a roast goose and suckling pig plate and a groupa dish to share.
The fish was okay, not much to rave about but the goose and suckling
pig were out of this world! The goose was so fresh it's like they
just finished roasting it moments before it was brought to the
table. The meat was aromatic, very soft and dripping with juice
and the skin was still blown tight and crispy, it was way better than
the famous Yung Kee roast goose in Hong Kong.
The suckling pig was already "de-meated" meaning all the lean and
moist, flavorful meat was cut into bite sized pieces on the plate
covered with the crunchy skin. So, each chopstick-ful you get is
crackling skin and lean meat, very easy to eat. I reckon going to
Singapore just to eat their BBQ meat is WORTH the entire trip!
What can I say about the crab? If you had it before, you know
how good and fragrant the roe is; and if you haven't, you are missing
out on one of the most sensational tastes nature has to offer. KL
didn't want any of it so I had it all to myself, hehehehe. It
took me 40 minutes to extract every shred of meat from every nook and
cranny in the crab.
We debated whether to order a fried rice when I was done with the
crab, but there's not enough time since we had to be at the Visitor
Centre in a short while for the Hippotour. Our last dinner in
Singapore was a very satisfying experience.
The Hippotour is just your run-of-the-mill open-top bus tour along
Orchard Road to see the Christmas lights. There was however a
guide who explained the story behind the tour and all the decorations,
but she didn't have much of the adorable Singapore accent, she sounded
more like a Brit!
There were a couple of prizes giveaway and KL won by answering a
question correctly. Good thing someone was paying attention to
what the tour guide was saying! But it wasn't much of a prize,
just a duck bill whistle that makes quacking sound.
After the 20-minute tour, we got food for next day's breakfast and called it a day.
