Cycling Part 2 (2004-09-10)

KL and I love going for a ride on our bicycles on weekends.  Besides getting some good exercise, we like to explore the area in which we live.  So far we have discovered many interesting things along the way, one of them is the Children's Traffic Park.

The park is adjacent to the cycle path next to the stream.  It has a playground, picnic area and a bike rental shop.  What makes the park interesting is all the small traffic lights and miniature roads inside.  Kids would rent bikes equipped with training wheels and ride around the park, many of whom have a parent running beside them guiding the way.  Children learn to obey traffic law such as giving way, stopping before stop signs and using the traffic lights correctly.  Adults dutifully wait for the traffic lights to turn green before crossing the small and skinny roads even though there are no bikes coming.  What a great way to teach kids about traffic rules and riding on roads.

We were the only grown-ups riding inside the park the day we discovered it.  When we came to a set of traffic lights, a toddler on a tricycle was already there before us. Waiting behind a little driver in front of a red light felt weird yet fun at the same time.  We couldn't help giggling until we "drove" out of the park to continue our exploration.
