The Kowloon Hotel (2011-01-20)
"Cheap and Cheery" was the mantra for our little vacation to Hong Kong, so there'd be no Sheraton or Hyatt in planning accommodation (but no crappy hotels either). I wanted to stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, and after much research, Kowloon Hotel seems like a good choice. All the reviewers on tripadvisor said the location is fantastic but the room is very small, about the only drawback of the hotel. Since C and I didn't plan to stay in the room much during the day, we could do with a small room.
Our room turned out to be not as small as we feared. You can
easily open two suitcases and still have room to move around, so we
were very happy about it. Location is truly fantastic, check out
the pictures to see what I mean. I'm so satisfied with this hotel
and their service that I plan to drag KL there on our next
trip. It's half the price of Hyatt!
An incident occurred: upon checking in, C's credit card was found to
be non-functional and I don't own any credit cards! We had to
quickly go across Nathan Road to exchange for Hong Kong dollars in a
shop inside Chungking Mansion (they've got the best rate) to pay
in cash (good thing the hotel is CLOSE TO EVERYTHING). And
because we paid in cash, we got upgraded to a higher floor and extended
a
waived
refundable security deposit provided we: 1) stay
the whole four nights (of course we would stay the 4 nights since we
already paid in full!), 2) not to use their laundry service (we'd wash
our
own undies, thank you) and 3) forfeit mini bar service in the room
(which means we got an EMPTY fridge, even better!).
