20th Wedding Anniversary (2011-08-05)

We are not the "celebrate special dates" kind of people, we don't give gifts to each other on Christmas or birthdays, so for KL to bring home chocolate cakes from Jean Paul Hevin on our 20th wedding anniversary in July is special (I think only because he happened to be in Shinjuku (kanji) that day on work-related matter).

Damn, I can't believe it's been 20 years!  It feels like 3 years at most!  I still remember vividly how that day went and how unconventional it was.  Here's some highlights:

  1. The ceremony took place in a civil office.  No wedding dress, no bridesmaids, no groomsmen, no nothing.
  2. Did not think of bringing flowers or even a camera. (we both didn't own one, so maybe that's why)  A business acquaintance of dad came to the ceremony whose wife's brother happened to be on vacation in Sydney from Hong Kong.  He took several photos for us because he brought a camera.
  3. My brother and younger sister were the only family present.  The others were overseas.
  4. Had an unplanned dimsum lunch in Chinatown as a post wedding meal.
  5. Bought an impromtu cake in a random cakeshop after lunch as a wedding afterthought.  It was a canceled birthday cake from some customer which still had the name of the birthday person on it!!
  6. The only piece of furniture in our apartment was a bed and a cardboard box (as dining table) for a while.
Man, KL and I built our lives together from scratch!
