Bar & Cafe Espanol Madrid (2006-07-26)
KL and I were walking around Shibuya () looking for a place for lunch, then we came upon a Spanish restaurant and decided to give it a try. The first floor of the two-story restaurant has a bar and tables for sandwich lunch set which we didn't want, so we were directed upstairs. It was prime lunch hour but there was not a single patron on the
second floor. The emptiness was kinda unsettling because a good
restaurant would be full of diners at that hour. In fact during
the entire 70 minutes we were there, no one else came. We ordered
their US$35/person (3600 yen) lunch course and hoped for the best.
The lone waitress who served us was nice and willing to accommodate
my wish to exchange the coffee for juice, a flexibility not every
restaurant provides for the customers. The food was a lot less
impressive than the service. The tapas as the first course was
nothing to write home about, the tomato salad was insipid, the bread
rolls were the frozen variety and tasted quite doughy with a strong raw
flour taste.
The highly anticipated main course: grilled Iberia pork from Spain
and assorted vegetables were disappointing. The dish was barely
warm when it came making us wonder just how long ago was it
cooked? The pork tasted just like any other kind without the
hefty price tag and the veggies were bland.
The quality of the food we had was not a reflection of its cost. We will not be returning.
