Echika (2007-01-06)
The concept of Echika meaning Underground Station (E=Eki=station; Chika=underground) which actually describes "a train station with restaurants and shops in a trendy design" is not new. Omotesando ()Station is the latest one which has already celebrated its first anniversary last October (It was opened Oct 25,2005). There are 26 shops and restaurants in its underground station, half of which bears a French name for some unknown reason. I guess having a French name adds to the trendy factor, non?Inside Omotesando Station's Echika, there is a mamourS which
sells sweets and macarons next to the Marche
de Metro which is like a food court, only most of the eateries
inside have of course, a French name. With an appellation like mamourS, whatelse to try but their
macarons? We bought ONE chocolate macaron to try since we never
had them and not sure if it'd be our thing. It wasn't our
thing. The
cookie was light and airy (good) but the center was too heavy and
sweet. We both found the sugary chewy chocolate cream too
cloying. Glad we only bought one. Perhaps the pistachio or
lemon ones would fare better (but we lost interest to find out; perhaps
some other time?). If you like very sweet sticky
filling sandwiched between light cookies, you'd totally like mamourS macarons.
Au revoir!
