Tofu Fujino

Complimentary soy milk (very intense soy flavor)

We all ordered the same set (2940yen/US$30) which started with cold appetizers in a bamboo basket

There's fresh bamboo tips with edamame and tofu, delicious

wild "mountain" vegetables in tofu and sesame paste

and fresh tofu skin, tofu and seaweed

For hot appetizer, we had grilled tofu pockets and fuki (a very long green vegetable that looks like celery)

Then this tray arrived which included

rice cooked in dashi broth topped with braised tofu pockets, bamboo tips, shredded egg, picked ginger and nanohana (a Japanese spring vegetable)

pureed spring sweet pea soup with soft tofu

black sesame tofu (very creamy yet slightly chewy)

Deepfried soft tofu cubes garnished with namafu, grated daikon, shishito (Japanese chili) and a salted sakura

Salad with new potatoes and new onion (only in season for a month in Japan)

Clear broth with tofu and nanohana and a colorful namafu

For dessert, we got a small piece of housemade Baumkuchen made of soy milk which tasted like a simple sponge cake; and black coffee made from Japanese black beans and Brazilian coffee beans. It just tasted very bitter to me
