Hyatt Regency Hong Kong (2010-01-05)
We always get the MTR Airport Express Pass to get to Kowloon Station when we travel to Hong Kong. It's the fastest transportation means from the airport to the city and it's actually quite a bargain with the benefits that come with the pass. There are free shuttles to a host of hotels from Kowloon Station but
Hyatt isn't one of them. We could've still taken one to a hotel
in Tsim Sha Tsui and then get a cab there but KL said that's too much
trouble, so we just took a taxi straight from Kowloon Station to our
hotel. (cab fare was just only US$5)
Hyatt Regency Hong Kong on Hanoi Rd in Tsim Sha Tsui has just been
in operation for two months when we were there, the hotel's basically
brand new. The front entrance was not even finished and guests
had to use the side door. The road was being paved, flower beds
being put in and lots of shops inside the hotel were under
construction.
The manager tells us the plan is to turn Hyatt into the "Landmark of
Kowloon" with a shopping mall, supermarket, and direct MTR access to
the hotel when all the work's done. In the future, guests can use
the MTR station located in the basement of Hyatt even though at the
moment the street level station is literally just across the street
from the side door and there'll be another one just steps from the main
entrance.
Not all the facilities were available during our stay. Only a couple of restaurants were open and guests had to use the gym in another building. A well-known restaurant, Hugo's, wasn't open yet then, but I'm looking forward to eating there in the future.
Hyatt's location is FANTASTIC. It's surrounded by busy
Carnarvon Road, Granville Road and Humphrey's Road; and Nathan road is
just a few minutes away on foot. There are LOTS of great and
famous
restaurants in close proximity and Harbour City (largest mall in Hong
Kong) and the pier is also within walking distance.
Service was great and almost every friendly staff (many of the men are good-looking!) would make eye contact with me while greeting me as I passed them. We usually stay at Sheraton when we travel to Hong Kong, but right now, I definitely want to return to Hyatt.
