HK-Day 7 (2011-05-08)

April 15.

Mui Kee, located right next to our hotel, ALWAYS sports a line at dinner time, everyday of the week.  I'd heard of their good and inexpensive stirfry dishes before, but we didn't have time to try their dinner menu, so we went to have lunch.

To our surprise, its basement dining area does look very like a "daipaidong", its namesake, meaning hawker center.  There were communal round tables, plastic chairs on slippery floor and TV playing in three corners.  As far as we could see, the majority of the clientale was day laborers, eating big servings of home style dishes.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed at the "crudeness" of the establishment.  Okay, so I'm a snob, I want my eating environment a bit cleaner than Mui Kee, the food in smaller portion, and the presentation in finer form.  But I should not judge a book by its cover.  Let's order.

KL's Fukien Fried Rice had the cheapest toppings we ever saw.  There were however plenty of shrimps and chicken to cover the large plate of tasty fried rice.  My Stirfried Beef Noodles was surprisingly good with that smoky wok flavor.

Lunch at Mui Kee is mediocre, but the way our stirfried dishes tasted, dinner could look promising.

We spent the rest of the day shopping which included a very good portable scale we bought on Apliu Street in Sham Shui Po, something I've wanted for a long time.

We had a long rest in the hotel before KL went to have dinner with his sister at Xia Fei while I had a crazy delicious roast goose and chicken rice takeaway from Guangdong Restaurant.

As for dessert (of course there's dessert!), KL brought back mango pudding from a cake shop after dinner.
