One Coin Taxis (2004-11-06)
All but one type of taxis in Tokyo cost 660 yen (US$6) to start the meters. The exception being those white taxis called "One Coin Taxi". Their starting charge is only 500 yen-- 500 yen is a coin in Japan-- hence the name. They are no different than any other taxis and operate the same way.
Just thought I would share this little piece of information with any future Tokyo visitors.
