Whole Wheat Bread (2012-08-20)
Obviously Japan is a rice-kind-of-country, but the lack of a variety of bread products in supermarkets is very sad.I miss Turkish bread, flour tortillas, pita bread, flat bread and
whole wheat bread.
When it comes to loaf bread, Japanese just want it soft and fluffy (not
keen on the healthy factor); and white bread is preferred.
Sprouted bread, multigrained bread and whole wheat bread is (dare I
say) non existent (sigh). Fortunately you can still buy whole
wheat bread in limited shops online which is of course expensive
(because demand is so small).
I tried some whole wheat bread from a bakery all the way down
southwestern Japan recently. It wasn't bad but just not quite the
same as the kinds they have in the West.
