Chestnuts (2005-10-01)
Autumn means cooler weather which is so welcoming to me. It also means lots of delicious food in season such as chestnuts and persimmons.Japan's chestnuts are absolutely huge, the biggest I have ever seen
in all the countries I have traveled. They are sweet but not as
sweet as the very small ones from northern China and they are a bit too
starchy once cooked.
Japanese like to eat rice with chopped chestnuts added to it in
Autumn. There are also many sweets and snacks made with chestnut
or chestnut paste around this time of the year. I like plain
roasted chestnuts the best.
