Hilton Hawaiian Village (2006-11-19)

Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa is too big to resemble a resort.  If you want intimacy and privacy, don't go there.  The hotel is huge and swarmed with guests.  There are always plenty of people milling about or chatting around you.  If you want a party atmosphere, go there.

The hotel is so close to the beach it's almost like it is on the beach.  There is zero step separating the west end of the hotel ( I don't know about the other side) and the sand.  If you are a beach bum, you'd love it.  Hilton is not located on Kuhio Ave, the prime touristy strip, and can be quite a walk to go there where all the actions and plentiful restaurants are found.  But there is a bus and trolly stop right in front of Tapa Tower end of Hilton and buses and trollys do come frequently and they should solve your don't-want-to-walk problem.

What I like most about Hilton is their wildlife on site.  Cascading fountains are ubiquitous, so are tropical plants.  There is penguin and turtle feeding everyday and I also saw a couple of beautiful parrots in a natural kinda habitat.

Apart from the two rude employees we dealt with when we checked into the hotel, the rest of the staff seemed very nice and amicable.  The people at any help/information desk are constantly trying to sell you their Vacation Club deal which can be quite annoying.  You could be just asking them for the fireworks time (which Hilton throws every Friday) and the man would want to present the whole Vacation Club thing to you.

For the kind of rate Hilton charges, charging $3.25 for a cup of coffee from the in-room coffee facility and $3.65 per day to use the safe is steep.  Tons of cheaper hotels would just let guests use their in-room safe free and self-made tea/coffee is on the house.  Seems like Hilton is trying to milk as much money as they can from the guests.
