Convenience stores (2004-03-06)

Convenience stores in Japan well and truly live up to their name. Besides a whole host of food stuff and other things that they sell, you can pay bills, conduct ATM transaction, mail letters, photocopy, pay for goods that you have purchased from a catalog, purchase tickets, send a courier or print pictures from film rolls and your digital camera. The list goes on and on. Some Familymart even has 24-hour laundry service. Different chains may offer some unique service that others don't, it's worth checking them out.

My husband bought a hotpot dinner at 7-11 last night. It came in its own tin foil pot, there were fresh vegetables, raw chicken, stock (the genuine one that jells up in cold temperature, not the powder kind you add water to), dipping sauce, sauce dish and a spoon inside. All you do is remove the cover, spoon, sauce and dish, pop the thing on the stove and within minutes, you have a piping hot chicken-vegie-soup hotpot dinner. And the best part? It tastes exceedingly good. Now try to find THAT at your local 7-11.
