Dim Sum In Bondi Junction Westfield (2007-10-09)

David and Serlina took us to Kam Fook inside the swanky Bondi Junction Westfield to have yum cha.  My parents were included in the guest list but Dad had made arrangement to visit a friend who just underwent heart surgery and Mom was recovering slowly from an inflammed leg and didn't feel like walking with us.

Early in the morning KL and I met with David and Serlina at Hurstville station and took a train to BJ.  Since parking is limited and expensive in the mall, the best way to get there is by public transport.  Our train wasn't a direct run to BJ like some others, so we had to switch to another one at Central Station.  To us Tokyo residents who are used to making multiple connecting trains, the Central station switch is a piece of cake.

Once out of the BJ station, Westfield is only a few minutes walk away.  The looming mall looks huge from the outside which is made up of two sections.  The newer wing is posh, shiny and houses some name brand shops whereas the older section has all the usual suspects such as chain clothes stores and a cinema which is adjacent to Kam Fook, our destination.

It is comfortable to sit inside the restaurant which has high ceiling, well-spaced tables, cushioned seats and wrap-around full-length windows.  There were many more westerners than Chinese in the restaurant which is unusual for a good yum cha place in a city full of Asians.  As soon as we were seated, dim sum carts streamed past us and we were offered dim sum from every one of them.  The dim sum were delicious, I think the steamed pork buns and egg tarts were the best out of the four yum cha places we've tried.

After the very tasty meal, we spent the rest of the day browsing in the mall before we made the next stop to another restaurant for dinner.  Oh boy, no wonder I put on weight this trip!  Thank you David and Serlina for treating us to a wonderful meal.
