Day 6-- Ciao Bella, Famiglia Pizza (2008-07-09)

As usual, our travel agent met us in the lobby after we checked out and were taken to the airport with the rest of the group.  The agent who's also the driver, had to pick up a few more people at other hotels which enabled us to have a last glimpse of this city through morning traffic.

Checking in at the airport was quick this time without lines although both KL and I had to be patted down and our carry-on tested for bomb residue, ya know, the standard show they put on to give the illusion that the government is fighting terrorism and stuff.  All this mess and inconvenience are caused by one man and one man only, George Bush.  It's an understatement to say that I don't like him.

Oh, back to our trip report.

There're only two things left in my "to-eat" list at this point of the trip which I didn't think we could fulfil-- Ciao Bella gelato at Grand central Station and Joe's Pizza on Carmine Street.  It was too early the day we went to Grand Central and the icecream shop wasn't open yet; and the pizza didn't make it to our stomachs cause we couldn't make room for it.

Would you believe what I found in the airport?  Ciao Bella and a pizza stand!  Woohoo!!  It was 9:45 am when we bought gelato and eating it by the store.  Passersby were throwing us curious and bewildered glances as I'm sure no locals would think of eating icecream this early!  The chocolate gelato was SOOOOO GOOOOD!  It was creamy and smooth, chocolatey and yet not too sweet, I liked it better than il laboratorio's instantly.  The chocolate sorbet was also great and very bitter which suits me just fine.

As we wandered past our gate, we saw a food court.  Famiglia's Italian color balloons stood out prominently amongst the shops.  I was kinda disappointed that they were still not quite ready for business 20 minutes before our boarding time.  Luckily they did five minutes later and a line was already forming.  KL and I split a slice of Mushroom & Pepperoni  and OMG, it was delicious!  I don't know the benchmark for judging a great pizza, but if it's thin-crusted, crispy-bottomed, chewy-centered, well-sauced and pepperoni-strewn, IT IS A GREAT PIZZA.

With fantastic gelato and pizza, we could not have ended our New York foodie trip on a more perfect note.
