Myohoji Temple (2004-07-03)

There is a temple just five minutes from our apartment.  It is located right across the supermarket where I do most of my shopping.  The temple is called Myohoji.  There are several buildings in the premise and a good-sized open area where people can take a stroll or sit in one of the few long benches to rest.  The gates to the temple are closed at night but a row of spot lights which aim directly at the main entrance to the temple ground will be turned on.  The effect from the yellow light makes it look quite special.

A small-scale bazaar is held on the 3rd, 13th and 23rd of every month in the court yard outside the gates.  There will also be a few food vendors vying for business from the scarce number of people who browse the bazaar.  They might fare better on special occasion such as New Years Eve when many people will start streaming into the temple shortly before midnight so they can do their praying as soon as New Years Day arrives.

I'm not a big fan of temples, shrines or churches.  Buildings don't fascinate me half as much as nature does.  I'm more interested in the few cherry trees on the temple ground.  Every year they blossom, you'll find me inside admiring the flowers.  Any other times I'll hardly give it a glance walking past it to go to the grocery store.
