Stuffed Squid (2004-09-18)

KL's colleague brought him a souvenir when he returned from a trip to Hokkaido (kanji).  It is a giant cooked stuffed squid in a vacuum pack, a local delicacy.  I followed the heating instruction, sliced the squid into rings and served it for lunch.  All was well until I took a bite.  It tasted so fishy it's worse than sashimi (raw fish).

The squid was stuffed with sticky rice mixed with tentacles and flavored with its own liver or whatever their internal orangy sac holds.  Unless the idea of biting into raw fish guts which have been sitting in the hot sun for days appeals to you, I suggest you pass on them if you see them while visiting Hokkaido.
