Trattoria Piatto Fresco (2011-05-25)

The maze of alleys and lanes opposite Kichijoji (kanji)'s JR Station is a hidden gem of restaurants and shops, many of which see long lines such as dumpling (yakigyuza) shop, bean paste-filled fish-shape pancakes (taiyaki) shop and ramen shops.

We walked past Trattoria Piatto Fresco several times and decided to give it a try one weekend.  Two lunch sets at 1200Yen (US$14.50) and 1800Yen (US$21.5) are available that include two courses and dessert.  Service was attentive but the seating is a bit tight.

Our salad was particularly flavorful thanks to the super fresh quality vegetables.  My seared bream was fishy but the accompanied vegetables were excellent.

I tried a piece of KL's seared beef and it was tender and full of flavor.  The dessert was surprisingly delicious.  All in all, not bad but not so great that we're dying to return.  Oh, and one more thing: serving is tiny, you'll have room for snacks in say, less than an hour.
