Kujiraken Ramen Shop (2004-12-20)

I watched a show on TV about popular ramen shops in Tokyo.  I recognized one of them which was Kujiraken on the eighth floor of My City building above JR Shinjuku (kanji) Station's East Exit.  I passed that shop several times and there was often a line outside it, sometimes a long one.  I got KL to go have lunch there with me to see if the noodles were really that good.

There was already a line when we arrived but we only needed to wait 15 minutes for our seats.  We both ordered shioramen (salt ramen) which doesn't have soy sauce in the soup and is generally lighter (less greasy) than the other varieties.  The noodles itself were the skinny type which I liked.  The soup had a somewhat strong fish taste because of the dried fish the cooks use making the stock, nevertheless it was still tasty.  However the soup was overly salty, there were scant toppings on the noodles and the serving was small.  Between $7-$12 a bowl, the ramen is expensive.  I can easily think of a few other ramen shops that I have been to that are better and cheaper than Kujiraken's.
